Fans of Race Across The World were left in awe over the couple that were crowned winners of the BBC show.

Best Friends, Alfie and Owen became the first pair to win the final and claim the £20,000 coveted prize fund. As viewers were gripped to their seats as they wondered who would complete the race to the finish line, the young duo were crowned winners after completing 15,000kn across Eastern Asia.

One excited social media user said: “MY WINNERS FROM THE START #raceacrosstheworld” Another penned: “And that’s it for Series 4 of Race Across the World done to Owen and Alfie and see you in the Autumn for the 2nd series of the celebrity version of #RaceAcrossTheWorld.” Meanwhile a third added: “O brilliant. Best telly ever #raceacrosstheworld.”

The pair fought off mother and daughter duo, Eugenie and Isabel, who came just eight minutes behind them. On realising that they had won, the duo exclaimed: “We’ve done it!” and hugged each other. Owen then said: “We came, and we saw, and we succeeded.” And in response to Owen’s jubilation, Alfie replied: “Best moment of our lives. Undeniably. Can’t believe it.”

In second place were mother and daughter Eugenie and Isabel as they arrived on the beach a few minutes later to claim the runner-up place. Speaking of their defeat, Eugenie said:”We did it. We’ve come in a good second. If we were to lose to anybody, we always said that we would want to lose to Alfie and Owen. They’re deserving of it as well, they’ve worked hard.” The following day, 24 hours and 34 minutes behind the winners, Betty and James arrived in third place.

Betty said: “I think, coming away from this experience we’ve learned how to communicate better, and we now both have an extra person to lean on if we need it, it’s amazing.” Coming in last, married couple Stephen and Viv said: “Gutted we’re not winning, obviously, but we’re so

pleased for the boys. This is the end of the biggest adventure of our lives.” The final episode saw Alfie and Owen begin the last leg with a 12-minute lead ahead of Eugenie and Isabel.

They started in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta with more than 1,000km to get past before reaching the finish line in Lombok. After generating a good time on their journey, the pair came up against a major obstacle as they discovered the boat to the small island of Gili

Meno only ran in daylight hours, which made them have to wait until the following morning. And this delayed their plans. However, the delay then allowed Eugenie and Isabel to gather speed and catch up, which brought the two rival groups waiting for the boat crossing. At the time, Alfie said he felt ” defeated” by the delay but Owen remained positive.
