RIGHT now, Meghan Markle’s relationship with dad Thomas is going through a rough patch but when she was growing up, the pair were close.

In fact, Meghan once revealed four brilliant words of advice she got from her dad as a child, which stuck with her forever.

In an interview she gave before her romance with Prince Harry was announced, she explained that she had been upset before an English exam because she had to fill out a form, which included ticking a box for her race.

The only options on the form were “white”, “black”, “Hispanic” or “Asian.”

As Meghan had a white dad and a black mum, she was unsure what to do so she left it blank.

Later, she told her father who was furious at the insensitive question.

Meghan said: “It made the green of his eyes pop and his brow was weighted at the thought of his daughter being prey to ignorance.

“And in one of those parenting moments that no guidebook could ever prep you for, my dad said words which will stay with me forever.

“Draw your own box.”

She added: “He wanted me to see beyond that census placed in front of me. He wanted me to find my own truth.”

In previous interviews, she has revealed a touching gift that Thomas gave her when she was seven, and struggling with her identity.

She explained: “When I was about seven, I have been fawning over a boxed set of Barbie dolls.

“It was called The Heart Family and included a mum doll, a dad doll, and two children. This perfect nuclear family was only sold in sets of white dolls or black dolls.

“On Christmas morning, swathed in glitter-flecked wrapping paper, there I found my Heart Family: a black mum doll, a white dad doll, and a child of each colour.

“My dad had taken the sets apart and customised my family.

“One that showed me that I should (and could) make my own box.”

Meghan’s relationship with Thomas deteriorated after he was caught staging paparazzi pictures in the run up to her wedding to Prince Harry in May.

The pair haven’t spoken since  and he claims he has been “frozen out” by the Royal Family.

In an interview with The Sun, Thomas compared the Royal Family to Scientologists because of their “cult-like” secrecy.

He has also claimed that Princess Diana would have “loathed” the way he has been treated.
