Meghan Markle ‘couldn’t land the big fish’, author claims she’s failed at a career makeover as Kate’s popularity soars

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be hoping for a fresh start this year

MEGHAN Markle’s attempt at a career makeover failed in 2023, according to a royal author, and she “couldn’t land the big fish.”

The Duchess of Sussex, 42, is said to have been “uncharacteristically quiet” last year, following the loss of her £18million Spotify deal in June.

Tom Bower claimed to Closer: “What’s interesting is most of last year she’s been pretty quiet – especially during Harry’s book launch.

“She was clearly building up to something but she couldn’t land it.

“She couldn’t land the big fish.”

In contrast, Tom said that Kate Middleton’s popularity is soaring, particularly after hosting her Together at Christmas carol concert, which aired on Christmas Eve.

The author claims Meghan’s hatred of Kate is “pure jealousy” and says the former Suits actress “couldn’t understand why Kate didn’t embrace her as an equal and trust her.”

Royal author Omid Scobie, who is said to be close to the Sussexes, alleged to PA: “Meghan and Kate’s friendship or relationship or lack of, it’s largely down to even in those early days, and we didn’t know it at the time, but we have since learned due to Harry’s memoir, because William and his brother were just not close, Meghan and Kate almost never had a chance to get that close.

“The Palace was certainly never shy about telling all of the journalists in the press pack, including myself, that ‘these are two very different women. They’re not going to have much in common, but at least there’s respect there.’

“But I think as we’ve seen, as the years have gone by, that it’s even been questionable whether that respect is even there.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be hoping for a fresh start this year, after backlash last year for their Netflix documentary and Harry’s bombshell biography Spare.

However, royal expert Phil Dampier told Fabulous that “redemption” is unlikely for the Sussexes.

It’s thought the couple may move home from Montecito to get themselves closer to Hollywood.

A source told US Weekly: “Harry and Meghan think 2024 will be the year of redemption” – with Meghan apparently turning down offers of work “left, right and centre” and Harry also in “extremely high demand”.

And Meghan has enlisted Beverly Hills talent agency William Morris Endeavour ahead of her long-planned relaunch in the New Year.

The source added: “They’ve actually been shocked by how popular she is. Her team has never seen anything like it.”

They claim she is being approached about everything from film roles to multi-million-dollar endorsement deals with major brands.

Reports of an acting comeback came after the duchess appeared in a playful Instagram ad for a coffee company, a firm she holds shares in.

The cameo appearance sees the former Suits star doing multiple roles at coffee company Clevr Blends, including packing, working on the digital team, and on the operations team.
