Jelly Roll Reveals the One Tattoo He Majorly Regrets: ‘It’s Just Bad Art’

On a recent episode of SiriusXM’s ‘The Howard Stern Show,’ the country singer admitted that some of his tattoos “suck bad”

Jelly Roll is sharing his biggest tattoo regret.

The 39-year-old country singer has previously admitted that he’s not thrilled with some of his body art, but called out a particularly “bad” tattoo on the Wednesday, June 12, episode of SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show.

“I have a tattoo on my arm that I gave somebody a quarter sack of bad weed for,” Jelly Roll told host Howard Stern when he asked the singer about the ink he regrets getting. “And it looks like a quarter sack of bad weed tattoo.”

He continued, “They look decent because they’re all grouped together, so you’re like, ‘They don’t look horrible, Jelly. ‘ But until you dissect them and zoom in you’re like, ‘These suck bad.’ It’s just bad art. There’s no other way to say it.'”

The singer, whose real name is Jason DeFord, also admitted to getting tattoos that were unhygienic.

“I’ve gotten staph infections from bad tattoos. I’ve learned nothing,” he said. “You talk about bull-headed. And I still went back to the same guy that gave me the staph infection.”

In a March 2024 interview with GQ, Jelly Roll stated that he regrets “almost all” of his tattoos.

“I regret 98% of these tattoos, 97, almost all of them,” he told the outlet. “Like core philosophies are rooted in my life when I was 17 and now I’m 40, I’m like, ‘What the f— was I thinking?'”

“I hate them all,” he added.

He also shared that he got his first tattoo, a cross on his right arm, at age 14. The singer called attention to one particularly regrettable piece of ink depicting a baby smoking a blunt.

“It was a little excessive,” he admitted.

Jelly Roll’s tattoo regret has caused him to undergo extensive cover-ups, including one to correct a misspelling of the phrase “Surviving the Struggle.”

“But he forgot to put the ‘T’ in it, so it said ‘Surviving the Sruggle,’ ” the singer recalled to GQ.

Some of Jelly Roll’s tattoos were done when he was in prison. The singer has been incarcerated upwards of 40 times for drug charges.

In December 2023 he spoke to PEOPLE about his journey with drugs. “I had to learn that you could drink alcohol without doing cocaine. It took me a long time to learn that,” he said. “I’ve never said that, but that’s real. There was a long time where I just assumed, when people told me they drank without doing cocaine, I was like, ‘I thought we only drank to do cocaine.’ “
