Eminem slammed for ‘disgusting’ Megan Thee Stallion swipe as critics urge ‘time to retire’

Eminem’s first release in four years has sparked some controversy despite the star-studded track.

Eminem’s latest song, Houdini, dropped on Thursday sparking a major stir throughout his fanbase as many believe the legendary rapper will be retiring after his next album release.

However, the track has been making waves for all the wrong reasons as critics are urging the 51-year-old to “retire” after he made a “disgusting” remark about Megan Thee Stallion in his lyrics.

Alongside his star-studded music video for the song, Eminem also name-drops a fair few A-listers in his rap and references Megan’s 2020 shooting incident.

The notoriously witty writer muses about a potential collaboration with the 29-year-old singing: “If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me

“Would I really have a shot at a feat? I don’t know, but I’m glad to be, back,” he adds while he gestures aiming a gun at the floor.

Some listeners lashed out on social media, as one disappointed fan wrote on X: “Eminem to say this when as far as ik she hasn’t dissed him is so weird and disgusting.”

Others were in full support of what seems to be the rapper’s last hoorah, writing: “I see y’all wailing abt the Megan line…sorry but Eminem is a certified troll and I love him for it.”

The 2020 incident saw Canadian rapper Tory Lanez being sentenced to 10 years in prison when he was found guilty of shooting Megan in the foot during an altercation in a car following a party at Kylie Jenner’s house that summer.

However, some claimed the quick jibe went a lot deeper than many believed as Megan previously made references to being like Mariah Carey, a notorious enemy of Eminem, while the Slim Shady star has previously sided with Megan’s rival Nicki Minaj.

Elsewhere in the lyrics, Eminem doesn’t hold back as he drags the likes of RuPaul, R. Kelly and even the children he shares with his ex-wife Kim Scott.

The rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, declared the three children “brats” just days after sharing his father-daughter dance with his eldest, Hailie, at her wedding.

In the music video, Hailie and her siblings, Alaina and Stevie, appear via FaceTime and share disgusted reactions at the insult.

The star-studded music video for Houdini features an incredible castlist including the likes of Pete Davidson, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and his longtime collaborator and friend Dr Dre.

Eminem’s 12th studio album is believed to be his last, with Houdini marking the first taste fans have received of it, with the rest of the release expected around summer 2024.
