The Milwaukee Bucks did not have the year they envisioned when they started the 2023-24 NBA season. Pair Damian Lillard with Giannis Antetokounmpo was supposed to make Milwaukee a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. Instead, they ended up losing in the first round of the NBA Playoffs (again) to the Indiana Pacers.

There are many things that went wrong last season. Adrian Griffin, though he had a record of 30-13, did not pan out as the team’s head coach. After Doc Rivers was hired to take his place, the team struggled to stay healthy. Giannis, Lillard, and Khris Middleton played a grand total of six games together under Rivers, including the in the NBA Playoffs.

Even midseason acquisitions like point guard Patrick Beverley and forward Danilo Gallinari were not enough to keep the Bucks afloat.

As fans may recall, the Bucks lost to the Pacers in six games in the opening round of the NBA Playoffs in early May. At the end of the final game of the series, a video was posted on social media of Beverley getting into an altercation with some Pacers fans that were seated behind the Bucks’ bench:

As seen in the video, Beverley was jawing with some fans and ended up throwing a basketball at one of them. After the NBA reviewed and investigated the incident, Beverley was suspended for four games.

However, he will likely never serve that suspension as he recently signed a two-year $4 million contract to play professional basketball in Israel.Ezoic

In addition to the NBA’s investigation, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department also stated it was going to investigate the incident to determine whether or not criminal charges would be brought against the former Bucks point guard.

According to Fox 59 in Indianapolis, the prosecutor’s office has declined to pursue criminal charges against Beverley following the completion of IMPD’s investigation.

Per the report:

“’After a thorough review of law enforcement’s investigation, it has been determined that criminal charges will not be filed in this matter,’ the prosecutor’s office said.

“No other information regarding IMPD’s investigation was provided. It is unknown if any civil lawsuits have been filed against Beverley in reference to the incident.”

While Beverley was clearly wrong for what he did, it is a positive that the Bucks team can move on from the incident without further publicity.

That being said, the incident will not be soon forgotten, and the Bucks-Pacers rivalry will certainly be one to watch next season as both teams look to dethrone the Boston Celtics atop the NBA Eastern Conference.
