The cancelation comes after one of the series stars died in a boating accident in March

THE popular National Geographic series Wicked Tuna has been canceled after 13 seasons on the air.

However, according to Variety, the show won’t continue after Season 13.

The network shared the news in a statement on Friday.

“After thirteen seasons on the high seas and more than 200 incredible episodes, the long-running series ‘Wicked Tuna’ has concluded its run on National Geographic.

“The series celebrated one of America’s oldest industries since first premiering on National Geographic in 2012 and made internationally recognizable stars out of the intrepid commercial fishermen who brave the unrelenting North Atlantic waters to catch the elusive bluefin tuna.

“As we reflect on 13 great seasons and 200+ episodes, our appreciation for our production partners at Pilgrim Media Group, our cast and crew, the Gloucester community and the show’s dedicated fans is hard to put into words.

“It has been an incredible journey together and there are only two words that seem to fit the moment: Thank You.”

Devoted fans expressed their disappointment over the show getting the boot on social media.

“@NatGeo Your cancellation of @WickedTuna is one the worst things I have heard in weeks,” one person wrote on X.

“@CaptMarciano & the others put on a phenomenal program. There is now no need for me to have your channel. I hope some smart production co picks it up. I will praise & promote whatever they do.”

“@CaptMarciano Dave what happened to Wicked Tuna? What are you guys gonna do now.. Paul, Tyler and Dave C?? After 13 years man that’s a heartbreaker!!” someone else said.

“PLEASE GET WICKED TUNA ON SOMEWHERE,” a third begged.

“This was a great family show! My daughter and I watched every episode like clockwork. Very sad to see quality tv taken off the air,” a fourth remarked.

“I’m so sad! This was the best family friendly show on tv!” a fifth echoed.

Wicked Tuna premiered on National Geographic in April 2012 and quickly gained an impressive following.

The success of the original, set in Gloucester, Massachusetts, prompted the spin-off Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks, which was set in North Carolina and ran for eight seasons from 2014-2021.

SERIES DEATH

The cancelation comes after Captain Charlie Griffin, who starred in the series, died from a boating accident in March.

Charlie and his dog Leila were found hours after going missing while boating with a friend in the Outer Banks.

The Coast Guard and first responders located the bodies of Charlie and the dog on the idle boat the following day.

Charlie’s friend was nowhere to be found.

The former TV star joined the cast of Wicked Tuna for Season 2 and stayed on until Season 5.

Wicked Tuna’s final episode, The Herds Are Here, aired on May 26, 2024.
