On Sunday, track and field star Noah Lyles secured the gold medal in the 100-meter sprint in front of LeBron James and Team USA’s basketball team.

Lyles won the race with a timing of 9.79 seconds to secure the top spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics. After his win, basketball fans had much to say about it on social media.

Lyles and basketball stars aren’t the biggest fans of each other. Back in August 2023, the runner shared his thoughts about the NBA.

According to him, it hurts to watch the NBA Finals and see the winning team get the title ‘World Champions’. He believes that since the majority of the teams in the association are American, it is absurd to refer to the champions as such.

This time, Lyles gets to call himself a world champion. What makes it even more interesting is the USA men’s basketball team watched him compete.

After the win, fans had a lot to say about his win. Here are some of their reactions.

“This is the worst hate watch American basketball players have ever experienced,” a fan said.

“He’s coming for you, NBA fans! This is the proper world champion,” another fan pointed out.

“Noah Lyles has been receiving abuse from American Basketball fans for his comment on NBA and now he’s won a Gold medal at the Olympics,” one fan said.

Other fans weren’t that impressed with Lyles’ gold medal win.

“Me wishing USA basketball team would do this to Noah Lyles on that boat,” one fan said.

“The nba finna win the gold too buddy,” another fan is confident in Team USA winning gold.

“When Team USA wins the Gold composed of NBA players will they not also be considered world champions too?” one fan queried.

LeBron James leads the charge for Team USA’s gold medal

Team USA has been undefeated so far in the Olympics. They’ve advanced to the quarterfinals, inching their way towards another gold medal. The team recently won against Puerto Rico, 104-83. In the game, LeBron James had a quiet night of 10 points, six rebounds and eight assists.

In the four games they’ve played in the Olympics, James has been stellar for the team. He’s averaging 14.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. Even though the national team has been deemed as a great squad, the LA Lakers star knows that winning more games means more difficult challenges await them.

“There’s a lot of great teams right now,” James said. “Obviously, Canada and Germany. I like the battle that Greece has had. We had Serbia in our group play and we know what they’re capable of. Australia as well. We’ve got to be ready for whoever our matchup is.”

The James-led national team will face Brazil in the quarterfinals. But the team is ready to take on any challenge to get the gold medal win.
