Chicago Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon, a two-time Olympic medalist, heaped praise on rookie Angel Reese, saying she has the potential to represent Team USA in women’s basketball in the future.
Weatherspoon, who won Olympic gold with Team USA in 1988 and bronze in 1992, expressed confidence in Reese’s abilities, indicating that the Sky rookie is demonstrating the necessary skills to make the team.
“She’s showing it. She has what it takes. You’re doggone right she has what it takes.”

Weatherspoon also highlighted another Sky rookie, Kamilla Cardoso, who has played for Brazil in a previous Olympic qualifying tournament, along with the entire Sky roster, as having the potential to make Olympic teams.
“Kamilla has what it takes as well to be with her country. Everybody on this team has what it freaking takes. We all do,” Weatherspoon said.
Angel Reese has played 10 professional games so far, averaging 11.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 34.6% from the field.
Her career high is 16 points against the Washington Mystics last week, where she shot 5-of-17 from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cardoso, the third overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft, who has been on a minutes restriction, is averaging 6.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 50% from the field.
The 12-player Team USA roster features WNBA MVPs A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart.
They will be joined by Napheesa Collier, Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner, Sabrina Ionescu, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Diana Taurasi, Alyssa Thomas and Jackie Young.
Notable omissions include star rookie Caitlin Clark, Dallas Wings standout Arike Ogunbowale and Sylvia Fowles, who missed the Olympic roster for the first time since 2008.
Angel Reese on her partnership with Kamilla Cardoso: “It’s here to stay”
The Chicago Sky strengthened their frontcourt by drafting Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese with the third and eighth picks in this year’s WNBA Draft.
Angel Reese has received the majority of the playing time, consistently posting double-doubles despite some inconsistency in finishing around the basket.
She is recognized as a productive starter, becoming the first WNBA player this season to record consecutive double-doubles with five or more steals.
Reese expressed enthusiasm about her partnership with Cardoso, stating that it’s here to stay.
“Our duo is something that’s going to be here for a while and here to stay,” Reese said. “I’m excited for our growth and I’m just happy for us.”
The Chicago Sky have started the season with a 4-6 record.
