The much-loved presenting duo are negotiating a divorce in news which will devastate their millions of fans.

Pals told how the couple drifted apart in recent months.

Their work commitments “took them in different directions”, sources said.

But the pair were determined to stay friends and “keep things amicable”.

They wed in 2010.

But in a sign of their determination to keep things amicable, she has been helping nurse him back to good health following a medical scare which resulted in him spending time in hospital.

The pair hadn’t been seen together for over two years, lasting appearing alongside one another in a social media skit on Instagram.

Days ago the 64-year-old Loose Women host updated fans by saying: “I look at Eamonn, who’s had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is.

“I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope. He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100 percent right.”

Ruth, who presented This Morning on ITV1 with her hubby for 15 years, told how Eamonn endured an operation on his back which went wrong, confining him to a wheelchair. At one point, he fell and broke his shoulder.

Giving no hint to the fractures in their relationship, she went on: “It’s testing, but we manage as a family.”

In a further poignant sign of their plans to stay close, earlier this month Eamonn, 64, reposted a snap on Instagram of he and Ruth in happier times.

A photographer had previously shared a picture of the couple, calling them, ‘The best in the business’.

The pair first met in 1997 when they were introduced by mutual friends and they dated for over a decade before Eamonn popped the question.

The news of the beloved TV couple ending their marriage will devastate fans
In 2002, she gave birth to their son, Jack Alexander Holmes. They got married at Elvetham Hall in Hampshire in 2010 and sold the rights to glossy mag Hello.

They won millions of fans presenting ITV’s This Morning together between 2006 and 2021. He has lately been starring on the breakfast show on GB News.

Their natural on-screen chemistry proved a regular hit with viewers across a variety of shows — though Eamonn.

In 2021, he told The Sun: “When you work together and you live together, there is no down time.

“Other TV presenters have a minor disagreement on set and then jump in their cars and go home. With us it can last all day!”

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford statement in full

The couple announced their intention to divorce via a spokesperson in a short statement to The Sun on Sunday: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

“You can be certain that whatever I say — almost anything — Ruth will say or think the opposite, and then we end up squabbling on screen.

“It seems to work for those watching at home. For now she’s enjoying doing Loose Women, and I’m excited about my own new project.”

But some fans began speculating about the couple’s relationship earlier this year after he revealed he had “loads to think about”. He added a black and white image of himself looking pensive.

Eamonn’s repost was the first time he had shared a picture of himself with Loose Women host Ruth for weeks.

The pair had not been seen together for several months, causing viewers to speculate. Fans questioned Ruth’s whereabouts in one of Eamonn’s family snaps.

The broadcaster proudly shared a picture of his son Declan, daughter-in-law Jenny, and their two daughters Emilia and Isabella from the latter’s christening.

The post caused some followers to wonder if Ruth had joined him at the family event. “Where is your wife Eamonn Holmes?” one asked.

It emerged she spent the day enjoying an Easter egg hunt in the park followed by tucking into lunch at the pub with her friends.

Ruth had only publicly commented on Eamonn’s health several days ago, saying her hubby would never be “100 per cent right”.

She told Woman’s Weekly: “I look at Eamonn, who’s had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is.

Eamonn and Ruth split – My View

By Showbiz Editor Hannah Hope

For many years Eamonn and Ruth were the mum and dad of morning TV, smiling into millions of people;s living rooms, like actual family members.

Having sat with them on This Morning sofa and witnessed their warm in-jokes and intimate, jovial bickering it was clear to see the bond, love and respect they had together and it made magic telly.

So it will come as a sad shock to many that the popular couple have split and have been quietly planning a divorce behind the scenes.

It’s been a tumultuous few years since I revealed, back in 2020, ITV had axed them from This Morning, ending their husband-and-wife on-screen reign and Eamonn has been struggling with his health and mobility.

I’m sure fans will flood them with support as they navigate these difficult next steps and move on with their lives separately.

In an interview with The Sun in 2020, Ruth revealed what she thought was the secret to a happy marriage.

She said: “I don’t have the secret to a happy marriage. If I did I would write a book and make a fortune! I definitely feel that Eamonn and I had chemistry from the moment we met – and we still have it.

“Even when he’s annoying me or when we’ve been really grumpy, he’ll say something that’ll make me laugh. There are times when I dislike him, but I love him. I’d like to think that he feels the same.”

“I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve.

She continued: “We live in hope

“He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100 per cent right.”

Eamonn is also facing a tax battle with HMRC and was “forced” to give up a house in his hometown of Belfast.

The HMRC first launched their investigations in 2018, and a tribunal two years later ruled Eamonn was employed at ITV while hosting This Morning – not working as a freelancer.

In response, the GB New presenter launched two appeals against the tax man, which cost him “hundreds of thousands of pounds” to settle legal fees.

Last time TV golden couple were seen together

One of the most clear signs Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were heading for divorce was that neither of them posting with each other on social media, or appearing at events together in over two years.

Their last social media post where they were seen together was in July 2022, with Ruth and Eamonn playing out a skit to promote her Feeling Fabulous event.

Ruth is seen creating a checklist for everything she needs before the event, before Eamonn pops up and asks, “Do you think you’re forgetting something? Or some one? Like, me?”

“You want to come?” she asks, before adding, “I hadn’t really thought about it.”

“I think they’ll want to see me more than that Anton [Du Beke] and that Rylan [Clark],” he responds.

While this is the last time they were seen on camera together, in September 2023 they were still together, with Eamonn filming Ruth steaming her face and asking her “What are you doing?”

Ruth, who was under the weather, wrote alongside the clip: “So day 3 of antibiotics and the doctor told me to steam twice a day….I try to do this in peace but @eamonnholmes decided to watch and offer helpful advice this morning!”
