As you know, Jonathan Marchessault has agreed to a 5-year contract with the Nashville Predators, not with the Montreal Canadiens.

A deal that will earn him an average of $5.5 million per season.

Many Canadiens fans would have undoubtedly liked Kent Hughes to reach an agreement with the Quebec-born forward, and as reported by the Marqueur website, it’s not that the Canadiens general manager didn’t try.

The Canadiens’ offer made to Jonathan Marchessault revealed

In fact, according to information obtained by Mathieu Paradis from the Toutsurlehockey website, Hughes reportedly offered Marchessault a three-year contract with an annual salary of $4.7 million, which is $800,000 less than the Predators’ offer.

In the end, it’s not surprising that he chose to join the Predators, who also signed Steven Stamkos and Brady Skjei to long-term deals.

But that’s not all!

It appears that the Vegas Golden Knights also made an offer to the player who scored 42 goals for them in 2023-2024, and it’s a complete joke.

According to Mathieu Paradis, Marchessault was offered a $1 million per season contract, for several years, with no performance bonuses.

“The annual salary was, according to my information, $1 million per year. Bonuses were not discussed in the negotiations, which indeed makes this offer quite peculiar.”

Excuse me?

Let’s just say that even if the Golden Knights were tight against the salary cap, this offer is simply ridiculous and borders on disrespect from the Sin City organization.

Let’s hope that the 2023 Conn Smythe Trophy winner will have a stellar season and make the Golden Knights’ management regret not seriously considering the idea of retaining his services.
