But Ruth replied: “Why would you need to stay friends? You aren’t with them anymore, you don’t need to be friends.

“My thing is you weren’t just friends, you were married or had a relationship.”

Another forgotten interview from the pandemic saw Eamonn confess he and Ruth “needed space” from each other.

In a joint interview with TalkTV host Kevin O’Sullivan, Eamonn admitted that the only time the pair really interacted was when they were working together.

He said at the time: “Although we live together, we’re not really together, we don’t watch the same TV, Ruth likes her own space, when we do This Morning it’s a rare time we actually interrelate.”

Today it was reported that Ruth “orchestrated” her split from Eamonn, with him “refusing” to sign off on their joint statement.

It’s believed Ruth was the one who OK’ed the simple statement, with Eamonn wanting no part in it.

The Daily Mail claims Eamonn ‘told friends he didn’t want to get involved’ and ‘Ruth could do what she wants but keep him out of it’.

Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes admitted they ‘needed space’ from each other in unearthed interview years before split

The statement eventually simply read: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

While sources have said they are ‘dedicated to making the split amicable’, Eamonn has already left the family home for a property nearby.

The couple have one son together, 22-year-old Jack.
