Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice was visibly upset after a goal call in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers was reversed.
The Panthers thought they had scored to cut Edmonton’s lead to 2-1 off a goal from Sasha Barkov, but after a video review, the goal was ruled offside, a difficult call to make given how close the puck is to the line.
To little surprise, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice was visibly unhappy by the close call, blasting the refs decision from the bench in an apparent expletive-ridden rant.
“The linesperson informed me it was the last clip that they got where they made the decision that it shows it is offside, I don’t have those.”
Maurice then went on to say he wouldn’t have challenged such an uncertain play if the roles were reversed in this situation.
“There was no way I would have challenged that if it was reversed, there was no way I thought you could conclusively say that was offside. I don’t know what the Oilers get, I don’t know what the league gets… but in the 30 seconds that I would have made that call I would not have challenged.”
The Florida Panthers lost the game 5-1, losing a 3-0 series lead to drop even, setting up a pivotal game seven against the Oilers at home in Florida with the winner hoisting the cup.
