Klay Thompson has definitely not been able to catch a break this off-season. Following his dismal performance in the Golden State Warriors’ season-ending 118-94 play-in loss to the Sacramento Kings, Thompson was under fire. After facing intense criticism and a swarm of hateful comments, Thompson has finally decided to take a stand for himself.

Today, when Thompson broke his Instagram hiatus to share glimpses from his personal life, the jokes followed. A comment from a user read, “You already knew people was going to talk about your 0/10 game before posting this.”

But Klay had had enough, he replied with a tongue-in-cheek comment. He said, “Hey young fella, I’m rooting for you. Eat your greens and get proper sleep nightly and you will make the NBA one day through hard work and perseverance.”  Thompson is letting the haters know he is unfazed.

Thompson has had a busy off-season. There have been rumors about a potential fallout between the player and his team. The speculations are based on the fact that Thompson, a free agent, recently finished the last season of a $189 million contract he signed in 2019.

Rumors of a possible split between the legendary trio of the Warriors—Thompson, Green, and Stephen Curry—have been fueled by reports of animosity between Thompson and teammate Draymond Green. That’s not all. Klay recently unfollowed the Warriors’ official Instagram account and deleted several team-related posts, one of which was from their 2022 championship run. Here’s what happened.

Are Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors having a fallout?

Recently, the hosts of the ‘95.7 The Game’ podcast talked about Thompson’s free agency and the possibility that he may sign a new contract with the Warriors. They disclosed that following the Play-In exit, Green made remarks that infuriated Thompson. Draymond had expressed wishes to play with Thompson and felt that the team would do right by him, citing an example of his lucrative contract even in the face of injuries. He said, “Klay tore his ACL. They paid him $160 million,” But according to the hosts, Klay didn’t appreciate the remark.

Adding fuel to the fire is the player’s recent social media activity. ‘95.7 The Game,’ brought to everyone’s attention that Thompson unfollowed the Warriors’ official Instagram account and deleted multiple team-related images. One, as mentioned before, is a post from their 2022 championship run. Mark T. Willard of ‘Willard and Dibs’ said, “Call me crazy. I think this means everything. I think [Klay] is GONE.”

It is no lie that Thompson had a difficult season. He played his career-worst game this post-season against the Kings. And for the first time since his rookie season, he spent some time on the bench. Thompson acknowledged this shift, saying, “To go from one of the best players… It’s hard for anybody. I’ll be honest with you. It’s very hard,” after being benched in a February win over the Nets.

Will this season mark the end of an iconic trio? Klay’s position with the Warriors remains heavily uncertain for now. As the player and the team navigate the off-season, everyone will be watching them closely.
