The Cowboys made CeeDee Lamb the second highest-paid wide receiver of all time with a $34 million annual deal, but because of the various taxes, he will earn half of the hit.

Following the four-year $136 million extension, CeeDee Lamb became the second highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, earning $34 million annually. But there’s a catch. Lamb will never see a massive chunk of the money because of taxes.

On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced that after months of holding out from any Dallas Cowboys activity, CeeDee Lamb finally signed an extension that will keep him at Arlington until March 2029. According to the contract, Lamb will earn $34 million annually, $100 million as guaranteed, and $38 million as a signing bonus.

However, Andrew Petcash of Profluence.com broke down Lamb’s contract and claimed the All-Pro wideout would not take home the entire $34 million. The reason behind the claim is the various taxes he will have to pay before the money gets transferred into his bank account.

Lamb will pay approximately $12.6 million in federal taxes, $1 million for a ‘Jock Tax’ and $1 million to his agent, and $800,000 to FICA/Medicare. After all the cuts, the 25-year-old will be left with $18.6 million, which is still a lot of money.

Lamb should count himself lucky because he plays football in Texas, where there’s no state tax. If he was playing for a team like the San Francisco 49ers in California, then there would have been an additional 13.30% state tax to deal with.

Skip Bayless reacts to CeeDee Lamb’s extension

Shortly after Schefter’s announcement, long-time Cowboys fan and sports analyst Skip Bayless took to X (previously known as Twitter) and shared his thoughts about the deal. Bayless ranted that Lamb, being the better player than the Vikings’ Justin Jefferson, deserved more than him.

I have said from the start, I'll take CeeDee Lamb over Justin Jefferson any day or night, and every time they went head-to-head, Ceedee has outplayed Justin Jefferson, who's never done much against my Cowboys. Ceedee Lamb deserved more money than Justin Jefferson is making because Ceede Lamb is much more than run-after-catch force.

Lamb last year went nuclear, writing his name in NFL history books. He became the Cowboys single-season record holder for receptions (135) and receiving yards (1749) and 12 touchdowns.

Even though Lamb earlier said his goal wasn’t to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, he turned down the Cowboys’ $32 million offer and pushed for more, eventually settling for $34 million. He still needs to pay a mammoth amount of taxes before thinking about buying his next car.
