Serena Williams takes a jab at Pat McAfee for Caitlin Clark remarks (Imagn)
Earlier this season, Pat McAfee used some choice words when talking about Caitlin Clark. During the ESPY’s Thursday night, one female sports icon seemed to have taken a jab at the longtime NFL punter.
“Just don’t use the b-word,” Serena said. “You know who you are.”

Caitlin Clark ended up hearing her name called multiple times during Thursday’s ESPYS. Along with winning best college athlete in women’s sports, she also took home best record-breaking performance.
Clark won this award for setting the new all-time scoring record in D1 history at Iowa. She made history with this achievement, becoming the first woman ever to take home this honor.
Now in the WNBA, Clark continues to put together eye-popping performances. She recently posted a historic stat line against the Washington Mystics and became the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double.
What did Pat McAfee say about Caitlin Clark that led to response from Serena Williams?
The comments Serena Williams is referencing came from Pat McAfee on his show a little over a month ago. While talking about the WNBA’s rookie class, he got too explicit when talking about the Caitlin Clark hype.
McAfee did not mean ill towards the Indiana Fever guard with his remarks. In fact, he was trying to praise her by saying she deserves all the hype for her play. The former Indianapolis Colts punter just used the wrong words when doing so.
“Just call it for what it is. There’s one white b**** for the Indiana team who is a superstar,” McAfee said.
While Caitlin Clark has lived up to the hype upon entering the WNBA, McAfee is slightly looking over the rest of the 2024 class. There have been multiple standout performers who have also helped with the growing popularity in the league.
The best rookie this season besides Clark has been Angel Reese. Two weeks ago, the two were named to the All-Star team together in just their first year as pros. Cameron Brink is another rookie who deserves a shoutout. She was an impressive two-way force before going down to a season-ending injury.
After hearing Clark be talked about in this manner, Serena Williams let McAfee know she didn’t approve of his comments.
