Football fans have their eyes set on Germany as the 17th edition of the European Championship begins – but over in Scotland, one young fan’s enthusiasm prompted him to drop the F-word on live TV.
A reporter from Sky News was in the midst of festivities in a Dumfermline pub this Friday, June 14, as he questioned footy enthusiasts over the Scots taking on Germany in the tournament opener at 8pm. “The atmosphere here is electric”, he told the studio.
As he ventured through the pub, he encountered eight-year-old Dylan who would quickly remind him of the perils of live television.
The conversation began smoothly: “How are you feeling?”, he asked, to which Dylan responded: “good.”
“Who do you think the score is going to be?”, the reported added. A hopeful Dylan replied: “3-0.” The journalist then moved on to another football fan.

The second individual disclosed his own opinion, suggesting Scotland could win the match with 1-0, leading the reporter to ask what the country’s participation meant to its residents.
But just as he was receiving an answer, Dylan interrupted the exchange, startling the reporter: “what were you going to say?”, he said, turning his microphone over to him. With all the attention now on him, the schoolboy yelled: “F*** Germany!”
While the slip-up left the older man in stitches, the reporter moved to another table, awkwardly ending the conversation: “oh dear, apologies for that language.”
Another lamented: “Live cross on Sky News ahead of Germany vs Scotland at #euro2024 confirming everything I think about football fans.
An amused TV viewer quipped: “Classic….dont do live tv with animals, kids or Fifers”, while another added: “The dangers of live reporting on Sky News!!”
Germany and Scotland fans are waiting with baited breath for the launch of the Euro 2024, which marks the return of the football competition to its usual four-year cycle following the Covid-19 pandemic. The 2020 edition of the tournament had been postponed to 2021.
Italy are the defending champions this year, as the team beat England during the last match of the competition in the Euro 2020 final on penalties.
However, the football schedule has left soapland in shambles as ITV soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been dismissed from their usual 7.30pm and 8pm slots to make way for the Euro 2024 launch.
