LeBron James had a “proud dad” moment on Saturday, with his son Bronny making his Summer league debut for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The younger James played just under 22 minutes against the Sacramento Kings, scoring his first NBA points in the second quarter after catching a handoff from Colin Castleton and heading downhill for a layup.

LeBron could not attend the game due to Team USA duties—training camp is underway—but he kept up with the action all the same, streaming the game from his mobile phone (likely illegally) and catching the two-pointer in real-time.

While the play wasn’t very complex, LBJ was visibly proud of his son.

“C’mon man that’s tough,” he gushed. “That’s tough. Get loose!”

Of course, some fans were quick to point out that there was nothing “tough” about an uncontested layup.

But it’s also tough to criticize LeBron for being proud of his son. He would have felt the same way over a free throw.

Bronny scored a neat midrange jumper later in the game, putting his ballhandling skills on display to create separation before knocking the shot down.

The youngster is looking to secure a spot on the Lakers roster after signing a surprising $7.9 million deal with the team. He went 2-of-9 for four points against the Kings on Saturday, missing all three of his attempts from the three-point line while adding two assists and two rebounds.

“Moments like that can slow the game down for you especially because I wasn’t as productive as I wanted to beforehand,” he said after the Lakers’ 108-94 loss, per NBA.com. “I couldn’t get the 3-ball to fall, but all the reps it’s going to come more smooth.”

Bronny and the Lakers will be back in action against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday evening.
