After an excruciating wait, No Time To Die—the 26th installment in the James Bond franchise—will finally hit a theater near you on Oct. 8 and bring with it Daniel Craig’s last turn as the famous secret agent.
Craig’s journey as Bond spanned a staggering 15 years; during this period, movies and men’s fashion have fundamentally shifted with exciting new results.
Ahead of No Time To Die, we decided a fashion retrospective of Craig’s time as Bond is a great way to honor the actor’s installments while also providing you with a handful of key looks to emulate after he’s turned in his license to kill. So with that in mind, here are the 10 best looks of Daniel Craig’s time as James Bond.
Casino Royale – Patterned Shirt and Undershirt
SONY PICTURES
Casino Royale is about Bond becoming 007—the man, the myth, the legend—so it’s kind of fitting that one of the first sequences introducing Craig’s take on the character is when he’s outfitted in a clearly off-duty look.
The patterned shirt, undershirt, and khakis feel decidedly casual for Bond, and it’s one of the few times we’ll see Craig’s Bond opt for something this stripped-back throughout his tenure. It’s as if to say, whatever normal life Bond had before becoming 007 is now officially gone.
This look is easily replicated at home with a patterned shirt from Ted Baker and a great-fitting undershirt from Mack Weldon.
Casino Royale – Swim Trunks
SONY PICTURES
Craig’s Bond made a (quite literal!) splash when he walked out of the water wearing these striking La Perla swim shorts.
La Perla is primarily a women’s brand, but every once in a while offers men’s swimwear.
Unfortunately, this particular model is pretty hard to find, but you can grab another pair of Bond-approved trunks in these Orlebar Brown shorts, which he’d end up wearing in Skyfall.
Oh, and if you want to make sure you’re as shredded as Craig when dramatically emerging from the ocean, maybe check out All Out Studios.
Casino Royale – Tuxedo
SONY PICTURES
As would be the case for all of the Craig era suiting and formalwear, Casino Royale marks the beginning of a storied relationship between this Bond and designer Tom Ford.
Ford’s debut is in this stunning tuxedo Bond wears throughout the poker sequences in the film. While Ford himself isn’t offering a traditional tux jacket this season, you can still snag an excellent jacket option from Indochino and splurge for the Ford pants if you’d like.
Quantum of Solace – Cardigan
SONY PICTURES
While I haven’t revisited Quantum of Solace since it debuted, I did remember enjoying it more than its critical consensus at the time.
Nevertheless, it remains a lesser entry in the Craig canon. I think we can all agree, however, that a cardigan on a boat remains an unimpeachable look.
The version Craig wears is similar to this style from Tom Ford, and you can get a semi-custom dress shirt to match from Rowing Blazers.
Skyfall – Leather jacket and Khakis
SONY PICTURES
In addition to being the best Bond film of Craig’s career, Skyfall has some excellent outfits. Things kick off with the only other major “off-duty” look we’ve gotten from Craig, as he spends his time in hiding rocking khakis and a killer leather jacket.
While the jacket in the movie is far more distressed, that’s just an excuse to pick up an option like this one from Taylor Stitch and wear it until its patina perfectly fades. Khakis are about a dime a dozen, but we like these from J. Crew.
Skyfall – Peacoat and gray pants
SONY PICTURES
During Skyfall’s electric Shanghai section, Craig opts for a pair of grey pants and a striking peacoat.
There’s a fun history with the peacoat; made by Alabama designer Billy Reid, the “Bond” peacoat gets its namesake not from the character but the street of the brand’s NYC flagship store.
Craig liked the coat enough he wanted it used in the movie—and now the coat is a core staple of Reid’s offerings—so much so that it’s already sold out for the season on the brand’s site.
You can still find one on Amazon, however. As far as the grey trousers go, any tapered style will work, like these from Hugo Boss.
Skyfall – The “Skyfall” Outfit
SONY PICTURES
Few cinematic looks have transcended the way the “Skyfall” look has, with meticulous breakdowns on menswear forums and inclusion on Instagram mood boards.
Its popularity is due to just how accessible the look is and because of how easily it can go from the street to a bar or even date night—all while making you look damn good wearing it.
You can snag the exact style Barbour jacket if you’d like and then pair it with a rich, blue sweater or sweatshirt like this option from Todd Snyder.
Spectre – Puffer and hiking boots
SONY PICTURES
Candidly speaking, Spectre doesn’t work when it comes to a narrative perspective. It’s a little bloated and tries too hard to tie together all the disparate elements of the previous Craig installments.
But, my god, the outfits are superb. The first standout is a modern take on a classic Bond snow setpiece.
Outfitted in a Tom Ford jacket that’s both turtleneck and puffer vest, it’s a versatile and practical one-two-punch befitting of Bond’s gadgets.
The real standout, however, is Bond’s Danner Mountain Pass Boots; they’re one of the more economical ways of getting yourself some Bond-approved style without having access to MI6’s budget.
Spectre – Brown suit separates
SONY PICTURES
It feels like suit separates don’t get as much love as they should. Sure, it’s a little easier just to put on a full suit, but separates can work just as well for when you need to look fancy but maybe want to go against the grain a bit.
In Spectre, Bond wears a set of brown separates as he arrives in Morocco.
It’s a fashion aperitif ahead of the main meal of his ivory dinner jacket—more on that in a second—that’s pretty easy to replicate yourself.
Grab some structured trousers like these from Séfr and pair them alongside this striking jacket from Sid Mashburn next time you want to dress up without having to go the whole nine yards.
SONY PICTURES
Part of the fun of a franchise like the Bond films is how the sartorial choices are often in conversation with each other.
To wit: almost every Bond has donned some version of an ivory dinner jacket at one point or another. Craig’s choice in Spectre is Tom Ford, naturally, with an incredibly striking diamond-like bowtie.
Pull from the Bond legacy next time you’ve headed to a black-tie event and rock an ivory dinner jacket like this one from SuitSupply with this Bonobos bowtie, and people around you very well may wonder whether or not you’ve got a license to kill.
