Nicolas Cage Horror Movie Involving Jesus’ Childhood Being Produced

A horror movie set amid Jesus’ childhood starring Nicolas Cage is shooting this summer.

Titled The Carpenter’s Son, the film also stars FKA Twigs, Souheila Yacoub and Noah Jupe. The Carpenter’s Son is being directed by Egyptian-American director Lotfy Nathan.

The official synopsis of the film, via Deadline, reads, “The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son, known only as ‘the Boy’, is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural and divine.”

Jupe, who plays the surviving son of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s characters in A Quiet Place and its sequel, stars as the Boy while Cage will star in the title role of the Carpenter.

According to Deadline, Nathan’s screenplay for the film was inspired by the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, which dates back to the 2nd Century AD and tells about Jesus’ childhood.

Deadline reports that the film will be shopped around for distribution at the Cannes Film Festival, which runs this year from May 14-25.

‘The Carpenter’s Son’ Continues Cage’s Run As An Indie Film Star

Nicolas Cage has alternated between studio and independent films throughout his prolific career, which dates back to 1981.

Cage’s first feature film appearance came in a small supporting role in the high school comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High, where he plays “Brad’s bud”— a cook — in a brief scene where Brad (Judge Reinhold) is fired from his fast food job after an altercation with a customer.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High marked the second and last time Cage was billed under his real name Nicolas Coppola. Cage is the son of August Coppola, the brother of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and actor Talia Shire.

Cage has appeared in more than 115 roles since Fast Times at Ridgemont High, including such hits as Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, The Rock, Con Air, Face/Off, City of Angels and two National Treasure movies.

Cage also won a Best Actor Oscar for the 1995 drama Leaving Las Vegas.

In more recent years, Cage has hopped back and forth between studio and indie productions. On the studio end, Cage voiced the roles in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Croods (and its sequel) and played Count Dracula in the horror comedy Renfield.

On the indie side, Cage played a heightened version of himself in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Dream Scenario — which earned him a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy category.

Cage’s latest film is the indie horror thriller Arcadian.

A release date has not yet been announced for The Carpenter.
