Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actress. She is regarded as one of the most successful performers of her generation, known for her boundary-pushing artistry and vocal abilities. Her success earned her the nickname “Queen Bey” and made her a pop icon of the 21st century.

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born in Houston, Texas to Tina and Mathew Knowles. She has a younger sister, Solange Knowles, who is also a singer. Beyoncé’s maternal grandparents were French-speaking Louisiana Creoles with roots in New Iberia. Through her mother, she is a descendant of many French aristocrats and Acadian militia officer Joseph Broussard.
