Beyoncé’s maternal grandparents were French-speaking Louisiana Creoles with roots in New Iberia. Through her mother, she is a descendant of many French aristocrats and Acadian militia officer Joseph Broussard. She later joined an all-girl entertainment group called Girl’s Tyme and signed a contract with Columbia Records.

Destiny’s Child was formed in 1990 in Houston, Texas. The original members were Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett. They released their debut single “No, No, No” in 1997, and their self-titled debut album in 1998. Their second album, The Writing’s on the Wall, was released in 1999 and included hits such as “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name”.
