DeMarcus Cousins began his NBA career with the Sacramento Kings. After spending over ten years in the league, he transitioned to the Taiwan Beer Leopards in the T1 League, where he led the team to a championship and was named MVP.
Cousins recently opened up about his biggest regret in his NBA career during an appearance on ‘The Draymond Green Show.‘ The former NBA star shared a deeply personal story about his time in Sacramento and the challenges he faced, particularly with a local reporter named Andy Ferrillo.
“I was dealing with some family things back home, and my brother had a situation of his own. This f***ing reporter, Andy Ferrillo, just made it his mission to give me hit piece after hit piece,” Cousins said.
At a time, Cousin became frustrated with Ferrillo’s relentless negative coverage. He felt it was part of a broader campaign to push him out of Sacramento.
“It was the campaign to kind of push me out of Sacramento; they had a little campaign going, which was fine,” he said.
The situation escalated when Cousins felt Ferrillo had run out of things to criticize him for and began targeting his family. Nevertheless, Cousins acknowledged that he could have handled the situation differently.
“At the end of the day, looking back on it, I was raised better. You know, I was raised to respect my elders. So I definitely pressed that old man a little too hard, bro,” he added.
DeMarcus Cousins Reflects on Comeback Dunk Over Kyle Kuzma
During the podcast, DeMarcus Cousins also reflected on a memorable moment from his NBA career. The former NBA star recalled a significant dunk over Kyle Kuzma during his Golden State Warriors career.
“I would say it was a hurdle I had to jump over. It was a lot for me even coming back, learning the system, and it’s like, that offense, people think it’s just so free flowing,” Cousins said.
“But it takes a lot of IQ to play in that, and your IQ never turns off. It’s not just an athletic type system,” Cousins added.
At the time, the veteran center was recovering from an ACL injury, which made Cousins’ achievement even more significant.
