Read it and you will cry – Eminem apologizes to his children by using home videos
Eminem’s latest album, ‘The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)’, closes with a track called ‘Somebody Save Me’. It depicts the death of the character, with Marshall Matters opening up.
In the song’s lyrics, Eminem apologizes to his children for missing out on crucial moments in their lives due to his drug addiction. And that’s exactly what his music video tells, which features home videos of Hailie Jade playing a guitar recital, Alaina’s graduation – who unsuccessfully asks him to get up in the first moments of the video – and Stevie opening Christmas presents. His brother Nate also appears on vacation.
The track features a sample from country and rap artist Jelly Roll, specifically from his 2020 single ‘Save Me’, so Jelly Roll also appears in the video performing the track’s big hook.
‘Save Me’ had already reached the top 30 in the US and UK without any further promotion, and now it remains to be seen whether, released as a single, it will be able to extend the life of an album that in its 5th week remains in the UK top 10 and in the US top 16. At the moment, the shadow of the first single ‘Houdini’ – with its illustrious sample of ‘Abracadabra’ – seems too long. After 3 months, ‘Houdini’ is still hovering around the global top 50 on Spotify, having reached number 1 in the UK and number 2 in the US.
