Dak Prescott has left contract negotiation conversation to Jerry Jones and his agent.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott gives much-needed clarity on his ‘complicated’ contract situation involving Jerry Jones

After how the Dallas Cowboys got eliminated from the playoffs last season, the contract extension talks of Dak Prescott, which were one of the highlights of the 2023 season, became vague. Instead of offering their star player a deserving extension, the Cowboys chose to go forward with the fifth-year option of his contract.

The Cowboys were said to be in a mutual understanding with Prescott over his hanging extension. The quarterback has now entered the final year of his four-year contract worth $160 million, with no franchise tag or no-trade clause included in it. There’s a highly likely chance that if the Cowboys didn’t offer an extension, Prescott would enter the free agency market in 2025 as an unrestricted free agent.

Given, that the Cowboys are not providing any genuine insight on their next move, the star quarterback stepped forward to offer some clarity. At Dallas’ 11th annual Reliant Home Run Derby, Prescott opened up about his contract situation, when asked whether there is any ongoing contract discussion between him and the franchise.

Not necessarily, obviously still conversations. Aware of what Jerry said, and everything he said is dead on. Communication has been back and forth.

Dak Prescott told the reporters

Despite the lack of any contract talks, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones asserted last week that the Cowboys are willing to keep Prescott for the long term. But then again, he also claimed to be “all-in” for the offseason before going absolutely inactive.

One big name that is likely to appear in the free agency in 2025 is three-time Pro Bowler, Prescott. The quarterback who has been loyal to only one team ever since he entered the league is looking forward to playing elsewhere next season.

I'm not going to say I fear being here or not. I don't fear either situation, to be candid with you. After the season we'll see where we're at and if the future holds that. And if not, we'll go from there.

Dak Prescott said at the Children’s Cancer Fund Gala

Prescott claimed that his current focus is the 2024 season and to improve his gameplay from last season. The contract negotiation conversation he has entirely left up to Jones and his agent.
