If the Cowboys succeed in claiming victory over the Eagles, they will acquire the top NFC East spot, paving their way to earn the No. 1 seed in the conference.
After scoring a win against the Seattle Seahawks with a winning record in week 12, the Dallas Cowboys seemed to have enough confidence as they prepared to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles, standing at the NFC top seed with 10-2. Earlier when the team faced the Eagles in 9, they had to endure a close defeat, recording the only defeat in their last seven games.
After Philly’s blowout loss against the San Francisco 49ers in week 13, Dallas seems to aim straight for their 10th victory and 5th consecutive one, as they are heading into the game with four consecutive wins.
Filled with confidence, head coach Mike McCarthy asserted via Dallas’ official website, writing:
We wanna get to this 10th win. We understand where they are.
Dallas has an opportunity to correct their mistakes of week 9 when they faced the Eagles for the first time this season.
McCarthy said while addressing the media:
It's the Cowboys vs the Eagles, I don't think you have to say anything more on that. I really do like the stretch that we're getting ready to be on. When you look at the teams that we're getting ready to line up against and, obviously, Philadelphia is all that matters right now -- this is an excellent opportunity for us to play in playoff-type games without playoff consequences.
HC McCarthy has high hopes for his team in December, as he considers this time the most crucial one that reflects how good a team is and whether they got what the playoffs team require or not. If the Cowboys succeed in claiming victory over the Eagles, they will acquire the top NFC East spot, paving their way to earn the No. 1 seed in the conference.
What would happen to Mike McCarthy if Dallas didn’t reach the NFC title game?
With his fourth season with the Cowboys, head coach McCarthy once again has quite a successful regular season as the team is standing at 9-3, behind the Eagles at 10-2. Last season was the most impressive for the Cowboys, under McCarthy as the team kept on winning despite the absence of star quarterback Dak Prescott. This number reflects the reason why McCarthy shouldn’t be in the hot seat, at least this season.

According to Sports DFW, there cannot be much said as Jerry Jones tends to over-correct his past mistakes. When Jimmy Johnson in the 90s parted ways from Dallas, Jones began to have short fuses with coaches. Later on, he expressed his remorse, which was partially the reason why Jason Garrett signed a long leash with the Cowboys, despite years of mediocrity and failures.
Perhaps, it seemed like Jones had learned lessons from his past mistakes, which meant he could let go of head coach McCarthy if he didn’t lead the team to the NFC title game. Although, it’s highly unlikely based on the team’s strong offense under McCarthy.
