Novak Djokovic’s former coach Boris Becker has shed light on the Serbian’s agony after his early exit at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The former World No.1 has always expressed his pride in representing his country Serbia.

Since the start of the 2016 season, Djokovic spoke about his desire to win gold for his country at the Summer Games. However, his campaign in Rio ended in the first round following a straight-sets defeat to Juan Martin del Potro.

Despite giving it his best, the Argentine beat Djokovic 7-6(4), 7-6(2). The Serbian was reduced to tears after the match and later declared that it was the toughest loss of his career. Boris Becker, who was coaching the former World No. 1 that year, revealed that the 37-year-old was heartbroken by the result.

Juan Martin del Potro went on to reach the final, where he lost to Andy Murray and had to settle for the silver medal.Boris Becker has stated that he expects to see a motivated Novak Djokovic at this year’s Paris Olympics. The Serbian has previously stated that the Summer Games in France was his biggest target for the season.

The German reckons that this ambition should ensure a fired-up Djokovic will be seen at the Olympics this year. The 24-time Singles Grand Slam champion has not been in his best form all year and heads into the quadrennial event without a title this season.
