Yesterday, members of the Spencer family came together at Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Thanksgiving service, as other members of the royal family stood with the King at his garden party. King Charles’s get-together went on at the same time as The Duke of Sussex’s event.

Princess Diana’s Relatives Supported Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Event

Charles Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, and Lady Jane Fellows, her sister, attended the St. Paul’s Cathedral for Prince Harry’s celebration of the 10th anniversary of the sports competition for sick, wounded, or injured service members. Prince Harry’s cousin and Diana’s nephew, Louis Spencer, also showed up for him.

Mark Dyer, Harry’s mentor after Princess Diana’s death, was also in attendance. None of the working royals came to St. Paul’s to support him.

The Spencer family has an impressive lineage, going back to Tudor times. They have ties of kinship with the likes of George Washington. Their aristocratic roots go back to 1486.

Notably, those closest to Diana knew that she was far prouder of being a Spencer than a royal, and in times of strife and stress, she would say to herself,

“Diana, remember, you are a Spencer.”

The Windsor English roots only date back to the early 18th century. Both families have a rich and fascinating history.

But the two never really got along. Their complicated and long-standing feud has continued for decades. Diana’s father, Earl Spencer, pretended to support her marriage to Charles when speaking to the press, but he was none too happy about it.

The bad blood between the Spencers and the Windsors began when Princess Diana was set to marry (then) Prince Charles. Diana’s father wanted his daughter to marry a country landowner, have children, and live happily ever after.

“No Love Lost Between The Spencers And The Windsors”

Diana’s father disapproved of her marrying into the royal family. He advised Diana not to go through with it. Earl Spencer knew a lot about the royal family, as he was an equal to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth when she first became monarch in February 1952.

Prince Harry SUPPORTED by Princess Diana’s Siblings at London Event

At Diana’s funeral, Charles Spencer blasted the royal family and the press during his speech about his beloved sister, which provoked loud applause, even from young Harry and Prince William, as the adult members of the royal family were frozen in silence.

After he slammed the press for how his late sister was treated, he vowed to protect Harry and William from the relentless duty and tradition of the Fim, and he would make sure that Diana’s sons grew up as free spirits, the way their mother wanted.

He said that he respected the heritage into which Harry and William had been born but that they should experience “as many different aspects of life as possible.”

Royal expert Michael Cole explained,

“There never was much love lost between the Spencers and the Windsors, and the divide was shown in its deepest and starkest form yesterday.”

Charles Spencer and Lady Jane Fellows have continued to support the Duke of Sussex, even after his move to the US, as they fill a void left by his other side of the family, whom Harrly likely feels abandoned him.
