“I’m glad Shaq called out the Los Angeles Lakers for overlooking Sam Cassell and a few other coaches that may have been way more qualified for the job.” Kwame Brown, who is never shy to voice his opinion, has once again had enough material to shoot at the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. With the help of Shaquille O’Neal and his comments on the hiring process of JJ Redick, Brown also took a shot at LeBron James.

The overall #1 pick in the 2001 draft said, “All this stuff that LeBron didn’t know, all of that is politics. All of that is for TV that’s for the media and you guys did not know nothing.” Additionally, Brown stated that the superstars are superstars for a reason because there is nothing that happens behind their backs. As Shaquille O’Neal mentioned previously, he was involved in many decisions until he was shown the door.

Further, Brown also gave his thoughts on the constant hype around Redick. “This is why I know stars are not born, they’re created. JJ Redick has no coaching experience. Nobody knows what he can actually do, but the media is repeating and regurgitating the same thing over and over again.” Brown said on Kwame Brown Bust Life and continued that every news headline is about Redick being the smartest guy. One more thing that the 42-year-old did not like was the comparison with coach Pat Riley.

The Godfather started his career as an assistant coach first in the 79-80 season with the Lakers. Later, he would go on to average 50 wins per season in his coaching career. So, Brown doesn’t understand why Redick is hyped as the next ‘Pat Riley’, without any experience to show for it. Similarly, Shaquille O’Neal also voiced his displeasure about overlooking an experienced coach.

Shaquille O’Neal’s comments give a reality check on the prevalent superstar culture

“It makes it look crazy that a guy with no experience can overshadow a guy like Sam Cassell.” Shaq clarified that he meant no disrespect to Redick but according to him, 15 years of experience of Cassell should have been considered. Shaquille O’Neal said on  The Big Podcast, a month ago. His co-host Adam Lefkoe asked the 4x NBA champion about the entire ordeal of LeBron not being involved in the coaching process.

“Yeah, I’m starting a website called yeahright/*******.com,” Shaq did not mince his words and said everything goes through LeBron. Further explaining that he was in the seat for the longest time. Once he was out of the organization, O’Neal was pretty certain that Kobe Bryant would have taken over that seat. The Lakers staff and Redick have denied LeBron being involved in the decision-making process which many, including Brown, have a problem with. But that’s not the only problem he had.

2 weeks ago, Brown had a problem with Bronny James and his attitude during the summer league. In his debut game, Bronny had a shooting 0% from the 3-point line and 0% from FT. Plus, he also suffered an injury, which ruled him out of the second game. However, Brown made a judgment that the rookie was too soft for the league.

Hence, whether LeBron James was involved in the process of Redick’s hiring or not is something that the fans may never know but they can certainly hope for the Lakers to be back on the top.
