Despite Team USA remaining undefeated through group play, they have not gotten any production from their guards offensively throughout the Paris Olympics. Proving to be a glaring hole that could’ve been avoided if Caitlin Clark was selected.
According to StatMamba via X, the starting guards on Team USA, which have been mainly Chelsea Gray and Diana Taurasi, have a total of four points in the entirety of the Olympics so far. They are a combined 2-for-12 from the field and 0-for-7 on 3-pointers.
Yet, Caitlin Clark was not selected. Who has proven to be one of the best offensive guards in the WNBA. The United States have been led by forwards Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson while getting key contributions off the bench.
On Sunday against Germany, both Gray and Taurasi started and scored zero points. They played six minutes each, and they shot a combined 0-for-4.

The U.S. is still the favorite for the gold medal, but if the goal is to assemble a team with the best players, leaving Caitlin Clark off the team, with the production the team is getting from the guard play is surprising, to say the least.
