After 12 years in the league, veteran guard Patrick Beverley has taken a deal to leave the NBA and play in Israel. The thing is, Milwaukee Bucks fans are confused about how this contract became historic in every sense of the word.

Beverley recently announced his departure from the league to join Hapoel Tel Aviv BC in the Israeli Basketball Premier League. The 36-year-old guard shared the news through his “Pat Bev Pod” social media feed, stating that he received an irresistible offer from the Israeli team. Despite considering an NBA veteran minimum deal, Beverley opted for a two-year, $4 million contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv.

The former Bucks guard’s decision to pursue an opportunity outside the NBA was driven by his desire for the best possible deal. He expressed gratitude for the financial terms offered by Hapoel Tel Aviv, mentioning that the club is even willing to support his podcast and merchandise sales.

The controversial star concluded the previous season with the Bucks after being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers. However, his on-court behavior during the playoffs led to a four-game suspension for the upcoming 2024-25 season. A couple of months ago, he threw a basketball at fans sitting courtside during a game against the Indiana Pacers and refused to answer questions from an ESPN reporter who hadn’t subscribed to his podcast.

A couple of days ago, Beverley claimed that the deal he got to play in Israel was a historic one. This led Bucks and NBA fans alike to share their confusion on a tweet shared by NBA Central’s official X account.

“when was $2million considered “historic,” HoodiGarland said.

“Bro sold out to people who want to bring back slavery for 2 million,” Moose tweeted.

“$2 million is nothing lmao I could make that tweeting for like 10 more years,” Buttcrack Sports posted.

“This is what he meant by “they gave me everything I was asking for”???” Jeremy Kamali asked.

“Isn’t that the league minimum?” 3Cs in a Pod wondered.

“Yikes on so many levels…” Ben reacted.

Having begun his professional career overseas, Beverley played in Ukraine, Greece, and Russia before making his NBA debut with the Houston Rockets in the 2012-13 season. Throughout his NBA journey, he also represented the Los Angeles Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls.

It remains to be seen whether more details will come out in the following days about Beverley’s contract. In any case, fans won’t be seeing the former Bucks guard in action for a while since he’s going to be in another continent playing ball there.
