Novak Djokovic’s career is really on the edge of perfection

Marion Bartoli stunned by Novak Djokovic’s victory

Novak Djokovic’s career is really on the edge of perfection. The Serbian champion won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics and also realized his greatest dream, which had always eluded him in previous editions.

Few people imagined such a feat from Nole, who is 37 years old and was certainly not playing the best season of his career. Before the Paris Olympics, the former world number 1 had suffered several surprising defeats and struggled to find the right stimuli. Also, the rise of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner seemed to have put him in the background in the most important tournaments.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion played an absolutely fantastic match yesterday, beating a 16-year-old opponent and shocking the world for the umpteenth time. Novak won this medal for Serbia, as he admitted during the press conference. After the award ceremony, the Serb went to the Olympic village and celebrated with dancing together with other Serbian athletes. Djokovic gave a lesson to Alcaraz, who had come out on the court convinced that he would bring the gold medal to Spain and perhaps too confident. The Spaniard played a really good match, but he could not do anything against a Novak in deluxe version.

Novak Djokovic burst into tears after winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics and all sports fans were thrilled watching his feat.

Bartoli pays tribute to Djokovic

Speaking with RMC, former WTA star and top analyst Marion Bartoli paid tribute to Nole: “I’ve never seen Novak Djokovic so moved as today. It’s a legendary moment for our sport, one that will never be forgotten. He’s at the top, there won’t be anyone to catch him. He has absolutely everything. He does it in front of his wife, his children, with the Serbian flag. He was in an absolutely exceptional degree of emotion. We’ve had a moment of history, I have tears in my eyes. Nole trembled when he was kneeling on the central of Roland Garros. This central was often difficult for him, where he suffered cruel defeats against Rafael Nadal. Carlos Alcaraz is the successor of Rafa and as a wink from history he wins against Carlitos at Roland Garros.”

Djokovic has pursued this dream throughout his career and never gave up, despite the painful disappointments he suffered at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2021. “I still want to play in Los Angeles,” he said during the press conference. “I enjoy playing for my country and the Olympic Games particularly and Davis Cup, being part of the team.

Olympic Games come every four years so the opportunity to win gold for your country is very rare and I knew the fact that I’m 37 and I don’t know how many more chances I’ll have, I knew everything. I have to deal with that, I have to try to silence all the noise around me and focus on what needs to be done on the court. And that’s the biggest battle to win. I’m super thrilled that I managed to do it here in the way that I did it, against a guy who is the best in the world at the moment. I’m just over the moon. Everything that I felt in that moment when I won really surpassed everything I thought or hoped that it would. I thought that carrying the flag at the opening ceremony (in London) was the best feeling ever until I experienced this today.”

Nole dreams of Los Angeles

The former world number one will be 41 in 2028, when the Los Angeles Olympics take place. Novak has shocked the world many times, but we will hardly see him participating in the next Olympics. The next goal of the Serbian will be the US Open at the end of August, where he will try to win his 25th Major.Novak DjokovicNovak Djokovic© Matthew Stockman / Staff Getty Images Sport

In a long interview with Tennis Majors, Goran Ivanisevic praised Djokovic: “We spoke about it so many times, it was one of my greatest wishes for him, he wanted it badly and that’s why it was so emotional for everyone. Fascinating. It is an amazing switch he was able to make in his mind, Wimbledon was only two-three weeks ago,” he said. “The will, the desire, the strength… Alcaraz is 16 years younger, hits harder and is quicker, but Novak made it look like Carlos isn’t younger, quicker and doesn’t hit harder.” Having shared the stage with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer for many years, Djokovic has proven to be the best ever. The 37-year-old from Belgrade has gone beyond the limits of logic and brought tennis to a new dimension.
