The Los Angeles Lakers revealed the reasons for drafting Bronny James, son of LeBron James, in the 2024 NBA Draft with the 55th overall pick.

In a recently released video, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and Coach J.J. Redick were seen on the phone with Bronny, emphasizing his work ethic and high character—qualities highly valued by the organization and which ultimately led to his selection in the draft.

“It’s important for Coach Redick and I to let you know those qualities really stand out,” Pelinka remarked. “And so the Lakers are going to draft you with the 55th pick in the draft.”

Bronny James has been in the spotlight from the moment he first picked up a basketball—an inevitable consequence when your father is revered as one of the greatest basketball players ever.

Before the draft, Bronny had a brief stint at USC, appearing in only 25 games and nearly five points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
