The Italian talked about his feelings about missing Paris Olympics, on Canadian Open Media Day

Jannik Sinner shares heartbreaking issue on Paris Olympics skips

Jannik Sinner didn’t mince words when describing the disappointment he felt when doctors advised him not to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. On more than one occasion, the Italian had reiterated the importance of this event for him, presenting it as one of the main goals of the season. The world number 1 unfortunately came across acute tonsillitis.

Missing the Olympics broke my heart, it was one of my goals of the season. It was difficult, I took antibiotics for almost a week and I didn’t touch my racket for days. When I left for Canada I wasn’t in perfect condition, now I’m much better and every day that passes I feel stronger,” Sinner said on Canadian Open Media Day.

“I have to accept that things went this way. The tonsillitis was tough,” explained Sinner, who will restart from the ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal.

The Italian will try to confirm the title he won last year, when the men’s tournament was played in Toronto, and extend his lead in the rankings over Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

“Lorenzo Musetti’s bronze medal? Everyone in Italy is happy, including me. And I’m happy for him. I couldn’t watch the match because I was training, but I intend to recover. Now I feel much better and I’m happy to be here, I’m preparing everything as best as possible to continue to be consistent as we have been throughout the year. I didn’t expect to get to the top so soon, but you must never stop. It’s important to feel good and work well with the team,” he added
