Barstool’s Dave Portnoy has launched yet another ambitious wager: at +10000 odds, the eccentric personality placed $100,000 on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever to win the WNBA title. “Caitlin Clark is a top 3 player in the league,” Portnoy tweeted alongside a screenshot of the bet on DraftKings.

“Maybe the best. She got rest for the 1st time in a year. Aliyah Boston and her chemistry grows every game. They started 1-8. 10-7 since then and improving. I had to do it.”

Clark and the Fever currently sit at 11-15, good enough for the eighth and bottom seed qualifying for the WNBA Playoffs. She hasn’t played since the league’s All-Star game back on July 20. Clark is leading the league with an impressive 8.2 assists a game. Her 17.1 points per game lead all rookies and ranks 12th-best in the league.

The top comment on Portnoy’s tweet read: “Woman crush Wednesday” – and featured the Barstool CEO’s face photoshopped onto Clark’s body. Portnoy is notorious big better and publically up around six million this year.

Some of his notable wins include $2.1 million from the UConn Huskies winning the NCAA basketball tournament and $1.3 from Scottie Scheffler winning The Masters. He’s been a very vocal supporter throughout the 2024 WNBA season, finding opportunities to drum up the persisting Angel Reese-Clark rivalry whenever he gets the chance.

Portnoy has also been steadfast in his belief that Clark should have been on Team USA’s Olympic roster. “You have arguably a player who’s the most popular player in the world you leave her off the Olympic team?” Portnoy asked. “It’s not only a showcase for her, but for the sport and the other WNBA players who are on this team.”

Team USA surprised a 67-66 scare from France to narrowly capture the women’s basketball gold medal at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.  Portnoy was quick to react to the result, tweeting: “If the USA women’s team lost that game I was about to put on a tweet storm that this app had never seen before.”

“I’d rather watch grass grow, I’d rather watch paint dry,” Portnoy said during a Barstool segment about watching Team USA women’s basketball at the Olympics. “I’d rather watch dirt just be moved around because Caitlin Clark is not on the team. If she’s there, it’s appointment TV.”

Clark and the Fever return to action this Friday against the Phoenix Mercury. In a recent piece, ESPN predicted the Fever will squeeze into the playoffs and Clark will take home the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Award.
