Coco Gauff has revealed that she didn’t allow Carlos Alcaraz to take a selfie with her during the Olympics.

The American walked away without a medal despite entering all three categories – singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

She still left Paris with plenty of memories and made sure to get some special souvenirs in the form of photos with Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. But Alcaraz didn’t make the cut.

Gauff is back in action at this week’s Canadian Open, where she is the top seed in the absence of Iga Swiatek. The world No. 2 came straight from the Olympics after suffering early exits in all three draws.

While she couldn’t win a medal, the 20-year-old is still happy with her overall Olympics experience. She was selected as one of the USA’s flagbearers for the opening ceremony alongside LeBron James. And she managed to tick off her main goals – taking selfies with Nadal and Murray.

But Gauff revealed that she stopped Alcaraz from getting in the picture with Nadal when he failed to swap pins with her. “I finally got a picture with Rafa and traded pins with him. Carlos didn’t have any pins so I didn’t let him get in the selfie,” she said.

“I finally got a picture with Andy which I always wanted to ask. The two goals were to get a picture with those two and ironically they were tennis players so I could have done it at any tournament!”

The pin-trading tradition is one of the talking points of the Olympic village, where athletes attempt to collect as many badges as possible from other nations. Gauff even received a custom pin from Snoop Dogg, who came to watch one of her matches at Stade Roland Garros.
