A trade offer involving the Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins has just been put forward by the Bleacher Report network.
It’s a strange offer coming from B/R, but it would give Josh Anderson a fresh start.
Anderson, who will earn $5.5 million per year for the next three seasons, is one of the few contracts (from the Marc Bergevin era) that doesn’t look too good at the moment.
I still believe that, in the right system and on a team that will play in the playoffs, Anderson can still be very useful.
However, it seems that Martin St-Louis’ system doesn’t quite align with number 17.
Josh Anderson traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Ryan Graves?
In short, journalist Adam Gretz, via the very popular Bleacher Report network, has just brought up a rather unexpected trade proposal between Montreal and Pittsburgh.
«His idea for Anderson is to see the Habs trade him to Pittsburgh. In return, Ryan Graves would head to Montreal.» – Félix Forget
Basically, he is suggesting the following offer.
To Montreal – Ryan Graves
To Pittsburgh – Josh Anderson
These are two players who need a fresh start and have contracts that don’t look too good at the moment. It might even remind some of the Pierre-Luc Dubois/Darcy Kuemper trade.
That being said, it’s interesting because it doesn’t come from a Montreal-based media outlet or journalist, but at the same time, it doesn’t seem like a very realistic proposal in my opinion.
Kent Hughes is more focused on trading a defenseman to acquire a forward, not the other way around!
This could be a solid trade for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and possibly even for Josh Anderson, but I really don’t see Kent Hughes doing this, even though Ryan Graves was an excellent, tough defensive defenseman with the Colorado Avalanche and the New Jersey Devils.
Graves, 29, is a 6-foot-5, 220-pound defenseman who has accumulated 114 points in 372 career NHL games. (184 penalty minutes)
Last season in Pittsburgh, he recorded 14 points while maintaining a positive +10 rating. (+34 in 2023 with the Devils)
He earns $4.5 million per year until 2029.
