The Dallas Mavericks kept their season alive with a stunning 122-84 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. This win staved off elimination and marked a significant breakthrough for Mavericks star Kyrie Irving against his former team.

Irving has been haunted by a streak of 13 consecutive losses against the Celtics since 2021. However, in Game 4, he finally broke free from what had seemed like a curse after getting disturbed by the Celtics fans rant in the previous game. Per ESPN, Kyrie contributed 21 points, four rebounds, and six assists in the win.

The game was thoroughly one-sided from start to finish from Dallas’ end. They achieved their most extensive series lead with a 48-point advantage over Boston. However, it’s the most significant deficit the Celtics have faced all season. Dallas’ 48-point lead in Game 4 represents the largest lead in an NBA Finals game in over half a century.

With this victory, the Mavericks have extended their season and injected new life into their championship aspirations.

Can Kyrie Irving Lead Another Finals Comeback?

The Dallas Mavericks are facing an uphill battle in the NBA Finals after falling into a 3-1 series deficit against the Boston Celtics. Nevertheless, history is not on their side, as no team in NBA playoff history has ever returned from such a daunting deficit in 156 previous attempts. Only four teams in similar 3-0 holes have forced a Game 7. Just one team achieved this feat in the Finals.

Nevertheless, Kyrie Irving has a history of defying the odds in the NBA Finals. 2016, Irving teamed up with LeBron James to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers in a historic comeback against the Golden State Warriors. The Cavaliers became the first and only team to overcome a 3-1 series deficit in NBA Finals history.

Irving sealed the championship with a clutch three-pointer, capping the Cavaliers’ remarkable comeback. However, reflecting on those performances and witnessing his synergy with Luka Doncic, Mavericks fans now harbor a hopeful outlook for this year’s championship.
