Giovanni Pernice has been dealt another blow following his Strictly Come Dancing scandal as his hit travel series has been reportedly been ‘shelved’.

The professional dancer, 33, embarked on a trip around Sicily and Spain with fellow Strictly star Anton Du Beke. They won over viewers during the series that aired earlier this year. It saw them visit where Giovanni and Anton were born and after the show ended, the duo teased their TV show would be back on air sometime soon.

Yet in recent weeks, Giovanni’s Strictly scandal has heated up following his most recent appearance on the BBC dance competition. He was paired with actress Amanda Abbington on the 2023 series, who quit early citing medical reasons. She later went on to claim she suffered from post traumatic stress disorder following her time on the show. Amanda reportedly told pals she felt Giovanni was “abrasive” with her while training.

Reportedly, the Italian is facing legal action from three former Strictly partners following allegations, while BBC bosses are said to have launched an internal investigation. Giovanni issued a statement where he denied any suggestion of “abusive or threatening behaviour”.

It has since been claimed Giovanni and Anton’s travel series will not be renewed by the BBC. “Giovanni and Anton had conversations about another travel show and had discussed where they could go next after their trips to Sicily and Spain,” a source told The Sun. “But Giovanni has now been told this won’t be happening and there will not be another series. It’s embarrassing because he’d actively hinted about getting another run but all discussions are off and he’s been told the show is on the scrap heap now.”

At the end of their last episode, the dancers hinted at more shows. Anton said: “What a lovely, lovely way to spend the summer. Where to next?” Giovanni replied: “Well it doesn’t really matter where we’re going as long as we are together. I love you.” It has been reported Giovanni could be set for a career change following claims he has quit Strictly.

Rumours emerged Giovanni has stepped away from the show after nine years as a leaked internal memo doesn’t feature Giovanni’s name among this year’s roster of professional dancers. According to Mail Online, the professional dancer has filed Rock You Productions Ltd at Companies House, which relates to the ‘operation of arts facilities’. The details suggest that Giovanni could be taking the steps to create his own dance school if he is to hand up his Strictly Come Dancing gloves.

Giovanni took to Instagram to address the controversy over the weekend, stating: “To my dear fans, you will be as surprised as I am that allegations have been made about my dance teaching methods in the media this week. Of course, I reject any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour, and I look forward to clearing my name.

“Those who have followed my journey on Strictly Come Dancing over the last decade will know that I am passionate and competitive. No-one is more ambitious for my dance partners than me. I have always striven to help them be the very best dancers they can be. This has always come from a place of love and wanting to win – for me and my dance partners. Thank you all once again for your continued love and support! Giovanni.”
