Last night, the Florida Panthers lost 5-3. Matthew Tkachuk was abandoned by his teammate after he made a crucial save at the end of the game.
The Panthers were one goal behind the Edmonton Oilers in the final minute of the game.
Paul Maurice decided to remove Sergei Bobrovsky from the ice and sent a sixth skater instead.
The Panthers were controlling the puck, but the Oilers managed to shoot the puck at the empty net.
In an ultimate effort, Matthew Tkachuk dived to stop the puck from going into the net at the last second.
Unfortunately, his teammate Oliver Ekman-Larsson had already quit on the play, and he couldn’t stop Connor McDavid from getting to the puck and shooting behind the goal line.
Check out how it went down in the video below:
Tkachuk makes an all-time great goal-line save and Ekman-Larsson just…gives up on the play and lets McDavid score anyway.
With the Stanley Cup in the building, come on man.
Either Ekman-Larsson thought the puck went in, or he didn’t see McDavid, but in any case, he shouldn’t have quit on the play.
In a crucial game like last night, giving up isn’t an option. This play will likely follow Ekman-Larsson and hurt his reputation.
The Panthers and Oilers are set to meet again on Friday, in what promises to be yet another exciting game!
Do you think Matthew Tkachuk was angry at his teammate after he abandoned him following his crucial save?
