Simone Biles, the viral childhood video that reveals the birth of an Olympic legend

Simone Biles

Simone Biles, one of the most iconic figures in world gymnastics, has captured the hearts of millions with her talent and perseverance now at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

In an adorable video, the diminutive Biles is seen sulking as she falls during a vault vault, pouting a little as she receives advice from her coach. This tender moment is part of her long road and arduous preparation since she was a child to become the most decorated gymnast of all time.

Biles’ story began when she was just six years old. During a field trip to the Bannon Gymnastix gymnastics center, she began mimicking other gymnasts in the back of the gym. One of the coaches, Mrs. Ronnie, noticed her natural talent.

Since the age of eight, Simone has trained under the tutelage of Aimee Boorman, dedicating countless hours to perfecting her skill. To maximize her training time, she graduated from high school in 2015 through home study.

Biles’ career has not been without its challenges. The Larry Nassar scandal, the doctor who abused numerous gymnasts, including Simone, rocked the gymnastics world. Nassar is now serving between 40 and 175 years in prison. This summer, with the U.S. gymnastics team participating in the Paris Olympics, Nassar has been “a target” in prison.

At Tokyo 2020, Simone faced a mental breakdown that led her to withdraw from several competitions, a decision that was criticized, but showed her courage in prioritizing her mental well-being. Now, in Paris 2024, she is back with a bang, winning gold in the team event and the all-around, bringing her Olympic medal total to six golds, one silver and two bronzes. With 40 medals between Olympic Games and World Championships, Biles consolidates her position as the most decorated gymnast in history.

At 27, Biles is considered a veteran in a sport that usually favors teenagers and young adults for its flexibility. Looking ahead, one more Olympic cycle would have her competing in Los Angeles 2028 at age 31.

Married in 2023, Simone may also be thinking about starting a family, a challenge many elite athletes face when trying to balance professional and personal life.

Simone Biles has proven that greatness is not only measured in medals, but also in the ability to overcome adversity and stand firm in her convictions. Her story continues to inspire future generations of gymnasts and sports fans around the world.
