The latest One Piece episode brought with it a lot of exciting events, but it also may have triggered the fans of the cook of the Straw Hat Pirates, Sanji. In episode 1105, which was released on May 18, 2024, fans were able to point out a change in one of the scenes from the manga that resulted in Sanji missing out on his epic moment.

This led to fans getting angry with Toei Animation for not doing justice to the character of Sanji, and some even claimed that the studio is biased towards Zoro and favors the swordsman between the two. Zoro and Sanji already have a rivalry going on, and fans believe that cutting out scenes like this undermines Sanji’s importance as a character.

Some fans even targeted the One Piece animator Henry Thurlow, who is part of the One Piece anime staff at Toei Animation. However, Thurlow had the perfect response to the backlash that fans had been throwing at Toei and its animators.

One Piece Fans Were Not Happy With The Sanji Mishap in the Latest Episode

Zoro and Sanji’s rivalry is a very important aspect of the One Piece narrative for the fans. They have always debated about who is the better character and who is best suited for the role of first mate of Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. These debates are mostly supported by the situations that both characters have to handle in the story.

This is why, when Toei Animation edited and modified a scene that undermined Sanji’s epic moment, fans were outraged. The scene involved Sanji saving Edison, one of Dr. Vegapunk’s satellites, from a laser beam fired towards him by S-Shark, one of the seraphim. Although there was not much difference between the anime and manga, it still took away Sanji’s moment.

Fans took to X(Formerly Twitter) to share their disappointment about the scene and how Toei Animation might have purposefully butchered a Sanji moment, as they usually favor Zoro and never miss any opportunity to highlight an epic moment by the Swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates.

One Piece Animators Replies To Fans’ Outrage For Sanji

One Piece animator Henry Thurlow was recently dragged into this debate to explain the situation involving Sanji and why Toei was messing up every Sanji scene. Thurlow has the best reply for One Piece and Sanji fans, as he explained how the fanbases have a habit of escalating any issue and making it a big problem.

Thurlow posted a tweet that stated:

This is the exact same message I got earlier in the series when Zoro fans were upset with his scenes. And the exact same message I got from Sakura fans who were upset with her scenes when I used to work on Naruto. These “Fans” all need to learn some breathing exercises and relax.

The animator has worked for many big franchises like Naruto, Haikyu!!, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, etc., and according to him, he has received similar complaints from every kind of fanbase.

He suggested that One Piece fans relax a little bit and, instead of focusing on such small details, enjoy the anime series.
