After conversing with Caitlin Clark at a press conference, a writer will no longer cover Indiana Fever matches.
Sports columnist Gregg Doyel of the Indy Star will not be covering the Indiana Fever, according to a statement from an Indy Star spokesperson.

After conversing with Caitlin Clark at a press conference, a writer will no longer cover Indiana Fever matches.
Back in April, there was an awkward moment during Caitlin Clark’s welcome ceremony for her new team in the WNBA. Doyel, a sports writer for the IndyStar, made a heart gesture toward Clark which she frequently used during her college basketball games. In response, Clark said, “Do you like that?” Doyel replied, “I like that you’re here,” and proceeded to share more about his own family tradition. He then told her, “Start doing it to me
and we’ll get along just fine.”
Later on that day, Doyel issued his apologies on social media, writing, “My comment afterward was awkward and clumsy. I sincerely apologize.” He also added, “Caitlin Clark, I’m so sorry. Today, I was part of the problem.” These same sentiments were shared in his column that was later published in the IndyStar.
When CNN contacted Gannett, the group that owns IndyStar, they did not respond regarding whether Doyel would cover the team at all during the season. Doyel has yet to respond to CNN’s inquiries for comment.
As of now, Doyel’s last article was about the Indianapolis Colts’ NFL draft back on April 29th. This coming Tuesday, Clark’s team, the Fever, is scheduled to kick off their 25th regular season on the road against the Connecticut Sun.
