Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, the two biggest stars in women’s college basketball for the past two years, made their WNBA preseason debuts over the weekend.

But only one was available for fans to watch.

While Clark’s preseason debut with the Indiana Fever was televised, Reese’s debut with the Chicago Sky was not. Instead, fans had to watch a live stream on social media, recorded by a fan sitting in the crowd.

The WNBA is facing heavy criticism for the “disrespectful” move.

“The league missing another huge opportunity with Angel Reese. She should be on every chance they get to and be marketing her way better. The Reese – Clark rivalry continued on for years to come would be amazing,” one fan wrote.

“If that was the WNBA’s decision then they are really failing to capitalize on the most momentum they’ve had in a very long time. Reese, Clark, Cardoso, all of them that made NCAA women’s basketball so fun. Imagine if Van Lith would have gone this year too,” one fan added.

“Cardoso and Angel Reese both people who beat Caitlin Clark in the NCAA championship don’t get their first WNBA game on TV for free but they made sure Caitlin Clark did!” one fan pointed out.

The fans weren’t the only ones criticizing the league, either. Some of the WNBA’s top stars sounded off, too.

“I mean, it sucks,” Sabrina Ionescu said at the Liberty’s Media Day on Saturday. “I think representation of every team is important. … Hopefully, the league can fix that because I think they dropped the ball on that part and hopefully they have a great explanation as to why that wasn’t televised. But hats off to the person that just figured it out.”

Brittney Griner added: “It’s wild they didn’t have this game on League Pass! But they did what they wanted! In no world does it make sense not to have these [two] young ladies’ game on the app!”

Hopefully, more WNBA preseason games will be televised moving forward.
