UFC star Robert Whittaker settles ultimate question that is on everyone’s lips | HO
Robert Whittaker has put an end to an age-old debate among sports fans.
The Australian UFC superstar was asked, ahead of his fight at UFC Saudi Arabia this weekend, whether he would win a fight against a kangaroo.
Tall, strong, lean and vicious, kangaroos have often been compared to humans when it comes to the fighting stakes.
But Whittaker was emphatic in his response whe asked about his chances of victory against a kangaroo.
‘Let us assume the kangaroos is bloodlusted,’ he began. ‘What are you going to do?
Robert Whittaker has answered the age-old question that has consumed MMA fans
Whittaker returns to the Octagon this weekend when he takes on Ikram Aliskerov
‘These guys, bloodlusted, looking you dead in the eye, like he knows you’re coming to take what’s his. They gut each other like you will not believe. I reckon a bloodlusted kangaroo does all you guys.
‘You give me six weeks to get him in prep? He does you. Don’t forget it. Strickland? Give me eight weeks to get the kangaroo ready.
‘I reckon a bloodlusted kangaroo does every one of those fighters. Every single one.’
Whittaker is aiming to get the better of short-notice opponent Ikram Aliskerov after his original opponent, Khamzat Chimaev, pulled out of their blockbuster in Saudi Arabia.
The former champion admitted to not knowing who Aliskerov was before the fight was made, but has since familiarised himself with his game, with many pundits expecting the outsider to offer a sterner test than Chimaev.
‘Mate, the work is done. I was prepped to fight Chimaev, I understand the game plan is a little different now, but I’m a fighter, I’ll work it out, I’m sure… I’m going to be honest, this is no disrespect, zero,’ Whittaker told BJPenn.com.
‘I don’t have a good head in the fan side of MMA, I don’t watch a lot of fights, it was left field for me, and he doesn’t have a lot of tape to watch in the UFC either.
But he says no fighter on the UFC roster would be able to defeat a kangaroo in a fight
‘He’s had some good wins, I’ve watched those.
‘At the end of the day, we are going to turn up Fight Night and leave it all there. I have a very well-rounded skillset, and I’m going to put it to good use.’
Whittaker added that he is confident he will finish Aliskerov, who has lost just one of his 16 MMA fights, and put himself in contention for a title shot.
‘The task is the same, I’m going to go in there and conquer him. I’m going to leave it in there and leave with his scalp or die trying, that is the plan,’ he said.
‘I want to piece him up. I want to control the distance and space, utilize my hands, and take the fight to a field where I’m the strongest which is striking. 25 minutes to try and put him away, I’m looking to put him away and I want to make a statement.’
