The White Sox broadcast team had a very different reaction to the strikeout

THE St. Louis Cardinals fell victim to a terrible strike three call on Saturday night.

After a three-hour rain delay, the White Sox and the Cardinals got back on the field, but only briefly as umpire CB Bucknor ended the game quickly.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, with the White Sox holding a slim 6-5 lead over the Cardinals, the bases were loaded with two outs and a count of 0-1.

Following a rain delay, Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrera stepped back into the batter’s box, hoping to clinch the win for his team. However, the game ended swiftly with just four pitches, the final one clearly outside the strike zone.

The Cardinals announcers expressed their frustration with the umpiring, particularly criticizing Bucknor for his questionable calls after the rain delay.

“You’ve got to be kidding me. After all of that, he [C.B Bucknor] is going to call a pitch off the plate,” the color commentator said.

“What a crazy, crazy game, and a crazy way to end.”

Play-by-play announcer Chip Caray was too stunned to speak at first, but finally put together one phrase.

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he said.

The White Sox commentary crew of course didn’t make any note of the poor strike three call, instead celebrating the end of the game.

“Ring him up! Strike three!” they yelled.

MLB fans agreed with the broadcasters about the poor umpiring, and called out Bucknor for it.

“I’ve been making fun of CB Bucknor for like 20 years for his controversial (aka wrong) calls. How he has a job is beyond me,” one fan said.

“The pitch was not even close. Bucknor is a joke and he embarrasses MLB on a nightly basis,” another fan said.

“CB Bucknor trying his best to be as bad as Angel Hernandez,” a third fan said.

“Why are the umpires so bad across the board this season?” a fourth fan said.

Five key MLB rule changes in 2024

1. The pitch clock is reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base. It will remain at 15 seconds with bases empty.

2. When a pitching change is made, the innings timer will reset to 2:00 rather than 2:15 like it did last year.

3. Teams will only be allowed four mound visits per game in 2024, down from five last season.

4. Fielders and defenders blocking bases will be called for obstruction by referees.

5. The runners’ lane from home plate to first base has been widened to include the dirt between the grass and the white line.
