According to MLB reporter Matt Gelb, Turner is expected to be out of the Phillies lineup for multiple weeks.
“Trea Turner said he expects to miss at least six weeks with his hamstring injury and any return before that ‘would be a win,'” Gelb wrote.
“Obviously, big blow for Phillies.”
He had an exceptional beginning to the 2024 season, establishing himself as one of the premier infielders in MLB.
Turner boasted an impressive .347 batting average, along with two home runs and nine RBIs. Moreover, he had already crossed the plate 27 times.
As the Phillies’ shortstop, Turner also showcased his speed by stealing ten bases, contributing to his 1.6 wins above replacement for the season.
His batting average ranked seventh-best in MLB, while his runs scored placed him sixth and his 47 hits were the second-most.
The news of Turner’s injury devastated Phillies fans, who earnestly pleaded for his swift return.
“Seeing that hurts. It leaves a massive void in our lineup,” expressed one fan.
“Had the division lead for 12 hours before god said nah we can’t have this,” another fan said.
“BRUH ARE YOU KIDDING ME,” a third fan said.
“1st place was nice while it lasted,” a fourth fan said.
Edmundo Sosa is expected to take over a majority of the work at shortstop while Bryson Stott moves over from second base sometimes.
The team is still unsure who will back second in the lineup.
Turner was one of the top batters in MLB this year
