However, the latest highlight in the stadium’s history wasn’t about the game’s outcome, despite the Mets securing a 4-2 victory. It was about an astonishing display of hot dog consumption.

On $1 hot dog night, fans seized the opportunity, devouring over 44,000 hot dogs, setting a new record for the stadium.

Regrettably, one fan, who played a significant role in this feat, found himself escorted out by security before the night ended.

Sporting a hotdog headpiece and a t-shirt emblazoned with “Bad day to be a glizzy,” he also had a chart to track his hot dog and beer intake.

Encouraged by fellow fans, he downed hot dogs while some even tossed their extras his way.

The deluge of hot dogs triggered security intervention.

Amid chants of “Let him eat,” he received a standing ovation as he exited the stadium.

A photo, posted on X (formerly Twitter), showed the unidentified fan’s consumption tally: “Dogs: Nine” and “Beers: 10.”

The user who shared the photo mentioned, “He and his girlfriend came from Westchester to have a good time.”

“Welder, blue-collar guy, just wants to drink beers and eat glizzys.”

Footage from the incident quickly made the rounds on X, with one fan dubbing him a “#locallegend.”

“It hurts seeing other people live your dream,” commented a second.

“This has to be an always sunny episode,” joked a third.

While another added, “Mets = Anti Fun.”

It appears that not all hot dogs found their way to eager fans on Tuesday.

In preparation for the event, the team allegedly ordered 70,000 hot dogs, as reported by Steve Gelbs of SNY TV.

“An extra refrigeration truck was needed to house all of the hot dogs,” he added.

Five key MLB rule changes in 2024

1. The pitch clock is reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base. It will remain at 15 seconds with bases empty.

2. When a pitching change is made, the innings timer will reset to 2:00 rather than 2:15 like it did last year.

3. Teams will only be allowed four mound visits per game in 2024, down from five last season.

4. Fielders and defenders blocking bases will be called for obstruction by referees.

5. The runners’ lane from home plate to first base has been widened to include the dirt between the grass and the white line.

As for the game itself, the star of the show was DJ Stewart who finished with three runs and a homer.

The Mets will host the Cubs again on Wednesday at 7:10pm ET.
