The Mets sold over 44,000 hot dogs on the night

ONE New York Mets fan won’t forget their experience at $1 hot dog night in a hurry.

Tuesday night at Citi Field was a historic one for the hometown Mets as they hosted the Chicago Cubs.

However, this new chapter in the history books was not down to the result, with the Mets winning 4-2, but rather the incredible consumption of processed meats.

The fans in attendance took full advantage of $1 hot dog night, snapping up over 44,000 of them in what marked a new record for the stadium.

Unfortunately, one of the fans to have played a central role in this success ultimately ended the night by being kicked out by security.

Wearing a hotdog headpiece and a t-shirt that read “Bad day to be a glizzy,” it also included a chart on which they kept a tally of how many hot dogs and bears he’d consumed.

Forcing them down while being cheered on by his fellow fans, some eventually started throwing their spare hot dogs his way.

The downpour of hot dogs from all around prompted security guards to intervene.

Chants of “Let him eat” rang out from fans, before being given a standing ovation as he was walked out of the stadium.

The unidentified fan’s final tally read “Dogs: Nine” and “Beers: 10,” as per a photo that surfaced on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The user who shared the snap added, “Him and his girlfriend came from Westchester to have a good time.

“Welder, blue-collar guy, just wants to drink beers and eat glizzys.”

Footage from the incident quickly made the rounds on X, with one fan dubbing him a “#locallegend.”

“It hurts seeing other people live your dream,” commented a second.

“This has to be an always sunny episode,” joked a third.

While another added, “Mets = Anti Fun.”

Unfortunately, it seems some hot dogs may have gone uneaten on Tuesday.

The team reportedly ordered 70,000 in anticipation of the event, according to Steve Gelbs of SNY TV.

“An extra refrigeration truck was needed to house all of the hot dogs,” he added.

Five key MLB rule changes in 2024

1. The pitch clock is reduced from 20 to 18 seconds with runners on base. It will remain at 15 seconds with bases empty.

2. When a pitching change is made, the innings timer will reset to 2:00 rather than 2:15 like it did last year.

3. Teams will only be allowed four mound visits per game in 2024, down from five last season.

4. Fielders and defenders blocking bases will be called for obstruction by referees.

5. The runners’ lane from home plate to first base has been widened to include the dirt between the grass and the white line.

As for the game itself, the star of the show was DJ Stewart who finished with three runs and a homer.

The Mets will host the Cubs again on Wednesday at 7:10pm ET.
