Luka Doncic and Jaylen Brown showed each other respect

The 2024 Finals MVP, Jaylen Brown was showered with praise after a clip of his conversation with his opponent, Luka Doncic went viral on social media. The duo matched up during the finals as Brown had the duty of guarding Doncic. Despite being a great defender, Brown admitted that the task was not easy.

Considering Luka Doncic‘s range and scoring abilities, the Slovenian is certainly not an easy offender to slow down. However, his skills were not enough for the Dallas Mavericks to take down the juggernaut Boston Celtics. But that did not stop Jaylen Brown from appreciating Doncic. Brown and Doncic showed each other respect as they embraced after the Celtics’ dominant win.

Luka, you’re a killer, you got the best out of me. I love you, bro,” Jaylen Brown said.

“I love you too, Bro,” Luka Doncic replied.

Brown’s defense was incredible on Doncic as in the last three games the Mavericks guard only scored 2 of 11 while Brown was the primary defender. His defense also affected the team as the Mavericks only scored 131 points in 154.4 possessions while Brown defended Doncic. That is only an 84.8 offensive rating over the five games.

However, despite all this, Doncic still managed to average close to triple-doubles in the finals. The star almost scored 30 points per game with 29.2 in the five games. The stats explain why Brown acknowledged Doncic’s game.

Doncic was an MVP finalist due to his elite scoring skills and stats. The star had a fantastic regular season as he was one of the top players in the entire league. Hence, it was widely known that the 25-year-old was a tough player to crack in the frontcourt. But Brown was ready to take the challenge in the finals.

In Game 5, Brown was one of the players who was mic’d up. During a break, a conversation between Brown and the Celtics’ head coach, Joe Mazzulla caught the internet’s attention. The forward kept things clear as he told the HC and the coaching staff to keep him in the game while Doncic was also playing.

If Luka stays, I stay. If Luka stays keep me in.

Brown’s tough mentality and elite defense are the reason the star won the finals MVP. But Doncic had to stay on the losing side despite having a dominant season. Doncic’s next season would be highly anticipated considering he was injured this season. A rematch between the two would also be interesting to see as Doncic would attempt to take revenge.
