WNBA legend Candace Parker couldn’t be happier for Angel Reese as the Chicago Sky rookie continues to make history and prove her doubters wrong.
On July 7th against the Seattle Storm, Reese officially broke Parker’s record for the longest consecutive double-double streak in WNBA history. The Sky rookie tallied her 13th straight double-double in the game with 14 points and 17 rebounds.
Now, during Thursday’s appearance at the 2024 ESPYs, Parker was asked about Reese’s accomplishment. The WNBA icon didn’t hold back in her praise for the Sky All-Star, noting that what the 22-year-old has done so far in her career is “unbelievable.”
“I think it’s unbelievable what she’s been able to accomplish. It’s been so cool to see her relish in people telling her she can’t and she won’t be successful,” Parker shared, via Bleacher Report.
“To see her grow throughout this season has been remarkable. She’s a rebounding machine and we saw that in college. And I know she took the fuel of people saying is it going to translate, and she’s done just that in this early round.”
Angel Reese certainly deserves all the recognition she’s getting. As Candace Parker said, there were a lot of doubts whether or not her game would translate to the pros heading into the 2024 Draft, but she quickly erased all those concerns with her consistent play.
The former LSU star is now one of the frontrunners for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award alongside Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. She’s also on pace to finish the season as the league’s rebounding leader (11.8), a testament to how dominant she has been this 2024 season.
Indeed, Reese has proven that she’s a real star in the WNBA.
Angel Reese Drops Brutally Honest Review Of Her Performance In Loss Vs. Liberty
Chicago Sky star forward Angel Reese kept her incredible double-double streak alive on Thursday night as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds against the New York Liberty. In the end, however, Reese’s effort just wasn’t enough to lift the Sky against a powerhouse Liberty side.
Despite Reese’s 15th straight double-double, the Sky still suffered a 91-76 loss against Sabrina Ionescu and Co. to mark their 13th defeat of the campaign.
After the game, Reese acknowledged how special her historic streak has been after extending her all-time double-double record. In the same breath, the 22-year-old, also dropped a brutally honest assessment of her performance on the evening:
“The basketball gods keep blessing me,” Reese said, via Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times. “I don’t even know how I did that. I didn’t have a great game, obviously.”

Reese will hope to keep her streak going on Saturday in their rematch against the Liberty. More importantly, though, the rookie sensation will want to be on the winning side this time around.
